Gamcel Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Gambia Cellular Company, Gamcel, Wednesday celebrated its ten years of existence in a grand style held at its head office along Mamadi Maniyang highway in Kanifing.

The company was officially launched by the Gambia leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh on the 25th May 2001 which coincided with his birthday. The celebration brought together people from different works of life, the company’s esteem customers, senior government official, Musician and many more.

Speaking at the occasion, Kebba Bojang, Gamcel senior sales manager said “we are ten years today thanks to dynamic leadership of President Jammeh for launching this company a decade ago, all geared towards bringing communication into the Gambia and to foster economic development of this country”. He stated the day was also successful through the supported rendered to them by their esteem customers since inception. He remind the gathering that Gamcel provided all Gambians and all those living in country access to communication, adding that their service is second to know in the sub-region with quality and affordable to all their subscribers.

Yankuba Colley, the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council who was the guest speaker said since the birth of Gamcel ten years ago, the people have seen world class cellular service delivery by the nation’s own enterprise which eventually opened the door for several more private companies to join the venture. “We have seen extensive network coverage by Gamcel over the past years underpinned by affordable rates thus making communication much easier for all” he said.

According to him, Gamcel have sponsored so many events within their corporate social responsibilities portfolio and have in the process, impacted positively on the lives and livelihoods of numerous citizens of this country. He then seized the opportunity to thank Gamcel for their continued support to the municipal programmes and activities, adding that they [Gamcel] have proven to be worthy partners in development.

For his part, Foday Ceesay, the general manager of Gamcel on behalf of the Board of Directors, management and staff, thank their subscribers for being with them all along. According him, they have come a long way adding that the ten years existence of the company has created enough service for the people of this country.

Ceesay then commended the Gambian leader for creating an enabling environment for them to operate, adding that the company have been roaming out with very good services and with modern technology.
