Minister for Communications, Haruna Iddrisu has challenged persons suspecting some present government officials of complicity in the sales agreement that saw Vodafone take over Ghana Telecom to produce it.

He said “if anybody has any credible, credible information of any government official having complicity, let them report appropriately to the law enforcement agencies.”

Mr. Iddrisu was reacting to a statement released by a group in Tamale called the Founder’s Bench which accused some government officials of benefiting from the Sales and Purchase Agreement of Ghana Telecom, claiming it is the reason for government’s inability to produce findings of a review process instituted in 2009.

Joy News’ Northern regional correspondent, Mahama Shaibu reports that the group further warned government that if it fails to institute further investigations into the death of Issa Mobilla, the northern regional chair of the CPP who died in military custody as well as the assassination of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, all the three NDC members of parliament in Tamale will lose their seats.

But speaking to Joy News, Mr Iddrisu said he has no difficulty in making available the recommendations and findings of the review process.

He explained that the government set up the re-engagement committee which has been working on some aspects of the contract to ensure that both parties agree on the areas that government believes should be reconsidered.

The re-engagement committee “wrote officially to the Auditor General to conduct an audit into aspects of the transactions that could have raised financial irregularities and malpractices.”

Mr Iddrisu who is also MP for Tamale South rebuffed threats of losing his seat insisting that Dagbon is bigger than just Tamale and therefore narrowing the issue down to just the three constituencies in Tamale “only exposes the political motives of the people who are behind it.”

He however revealed that government has established a Technical Committee headed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Ben Kumbuor to re-examine and review some of the investigative processes that were used in the earlier investigations in both cases.
