The Single White Female singer, who announced she is gay last May (10), was handed the Vanguard Award at the seventh annual ceremony.
Outmusic organisers hailed Wright as a leader for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Lesbian rocker Melissa Etheridge received the Lifetime Achievement plaque, while gay rights activist Cyndi Lauper was named Person of the Year at the event, held at New York City’s Irving Plaza.
