Edward Graham Faces Fresh Charges, Remanded

The former Managing Director of Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation (SSHFC), Edward Graham was on Thursday 19th May arraigned before acting Principal Magistrate, Alagbe Taiwo Ade, of the Banjul Magistrates’ court charged with Abuse of office contrary to section 90 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Volume III Revised laws of The Gambia 2009 and Economic Crime contrary to Section 5 (a) of the Economic Crimes (specified offences) Act Volume III Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009.

The Particulars of offence on count one States that Edward Graham between the months of January and December 2010 at Banjul and other places in The Republic of The Gambia being employed in the Public Service as the Managing Director of Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation abused the authority of your office directed to be done arbitrary acts to wit: You directed Omar Sarr to employ Ancha Jammeh as Finance Manager of Home Finance Company (Gambia) Limited which is prejudicial to the right of Home Finance Company (Gambia) Limited and there by committed an offence.

Count Two Particulars of offence indicated that the aforesaid person between the months of January and December 2010 at Banjul in the Republic of The Gambia being employed in the Public Service as Managing Director of Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation, willfully caused the loss of D73, 000 (Seventy Three thousand Dalasis) to Home finance company (Gambia) Limited and thereby committed an offence.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Matter is adjourned to Monday 23rd May for the accused to formally apply for bail. The Director of Public Prosecution appeared for the state in Court.
