WITH the bumper harvest of slightly more than three million tonnes of maize, Briefcase hopes that farmers will ensure their grain has the acceptable moisture content and conforms to other requirements before delivering it to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) satellite depots.
In the past, some farmers had been stuck with their maize after being rejected at testing point.
On the other hand, FRA should expedite the rehabilitation and construction of storage facilities so that all the grain is stored timely and appropriately.
Increase biofuel production
NOW that the Government has issued blending ratios, biofuel producers should seize the opportunity and increase their production levels as the market is readily available.
Last month, the Government announced that it was ready to purchase the bio-ethanol and bio-diesel that conforms to specified standards.
Briefcase is, therefore, urging players in the industry to procure equipment for processing biofuel which can now be blended in the national fuel mix. This will translate into reduction of amount and cost of importing petroleum feedstock.
DStv signal proves elusive
BRIEFCASE has been receiving phone calls from some DStv subscribers in Solwezi, Ndola, and Kitwe that they have been experiencing intermittent interruption in signal.
In some cases, they said, the signal would disappear around 18: 00 hours until the following day.
Briefcase approached Multi-choice Zambia management, which assured that technicians are working tirelessly to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
