The president of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, Saturday evening held talks with the Senegalese minister of Defence, who paid a courtesy call on him at his Kanilia residence.
Minister Bekai Diop was accompanied to Kanilai by the Senegalese high commissioner to The Gambia, His Excellency Diame Signate. The Senegalese Defence minister was in the country to attend the ongoing Jamoral festival in Bujinga, which is a celebration of reunion of the families of Bojang, Manga and Badjan.
Speaking briefly to the State House press corps, Minister Diop reaffirmed the cordial ties between the Republics of Senegal and The Gambia, as well as its leaders. Diop, who was in the country for the second time in a week, described the citizens of The Gambia and Senegal as one people in two countries, thus stressing the need to nurture peace and unity between the two in any endeavour.
