According to the group, the MCE had employed a divide and rule tactic which did not augur well for the development of the municipality.
The group said due to her disrespect for party leaders and members, the NDC was gradually collapsing in the area, resulting in about 85 card-bearing members of the party defecting to the New Patriotic Party (NPPP) in the KEEA constituency.
‘We say it on authority that the MCE is not a true NDC and if not sacked, we will find it tough in the 2012 elections. This is the President’s own constituency and we will not sit down and look unconcerned. No way,’ they said.
They have therefore warned President Mills to respond to their call quickly with all due respect, adding that should he fail to respond, they would advise themselves in the 2012 general elections.
The concerned NDC members made this known on Friday when they held a press conference at Elmina to register their dissatisfaction about the MCE who, according to them, had succeeded in dividing the party.
The press conference became more dramatic when the leader of the pressure group, Stephen Thompson, openly stated that he was not one of those who could be deceived with GH¢50 and one tin of sardine to misbehave for the party.
His comment was to insinuate that some of the party members were given money and food to tow the line of the MCE, even though she was ‘misbehaving’.
According to him, some party members only thought of their stomach.
It took the intervention of the Elmina Police who protected the pressure group from being attacked by some people who were believed to be in the camp of the MCE.
Mr. Thompson, who read the press statement on behalf of the group, said the various inactions and total disrespect for elders and other executives in the party had contributed to the collapse of the party, adding that if the situation was not remedied, the party would lose the KEEA seat to the NPP aspirant, Nana Ato Arthur, come 2012.
‘We know how our first DCE and MP teamed up with constituency executives to make the party stand on its feet, making KEEA a safe seat but this disgusting attitude of Rev. Nelson has made the party shaky in this constituency. Why?’ he questioned.
Mr. Thompson indicated that Rev. Essuman Nelson, since her inception as MCE, had not been on talking terms with the Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Joseph S. Annan, and former MP Dr. Ato Quarshie, as well as some constituency, branch and polling station executives of the party.
He accused the MCE of neglecting the party’s constituency chairman who reclaimed the MP’s seat from Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, adding that the MCE had bad human relations, and also did not visit the various polling stations and communities to propagate the Better Ghana Agenda policies and programmes.
