Sh19.4 Million to End Water Woes in Narok North District

The Ministry of Water will spend Sh19.4 million to increase in Nailogilogi trading centre in Narok North. Eng Michael Otieno said a Sh3.4 million borehole has been drilled at Nairegie Enkare in Mau Division. “The phase two is about to commence, we will construct a 100,000 cubic meters tank to supply water to the trading centre and another 225,000 cubic meter storage tank, purchase pipes and digging trenches to lay pipes at a cost of Sh16 million,” he said.

He added that among institutions to benefit included schools, health facilities and the residents living around the area totaling to over 3,000 house holds in the area. Otieno said once the project is complete, it will solve the perennial water problems in the area.

The water officer also said the Duka Moja area is usually on the receiving end when it rains and flooded with water and during the dry spell the place is extremely dry resulting to deaths in both incidences.

He further added that the government has released Sh4 million to purchase a standby generator to enable them pump water to the residents especially during the frequent power black outs in the area.

The engineer said that they are in talks with the Narok University to expand the water supply to the tune of Sh20 million in order to supply water to the university and its environs.
