Bolton have put a £17 million price-tag on Gary Cahill to fend off interest from Arsenal and Manchester City this summer, according to The Mirror.

Cahill has been no stranger to transfer speculation in recent years and is sure to be the subject of bids this summer though Bolton and their manager Owen Coyle are desperate to hold on to their star-player.

Manchester City are in the driving seat for the former Aston Villa starlet with the finance readily available to tempt Bolton into a deal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the centre-half but has expressed concern at the price of British players.

“I will always try to get value for money because I think that is the job of a good manager,” Wenger said.

“In England, it is bit more difficult because the inflation is higher than everywhere else. When you only have a few players and many clubs the price is always high.”

The England international has just one year remaining on his current deal and Wanderers will risk losing him for nothing next summer if they reject any move for the defender.
