Chief Chisunka, 25 Headmen Rally Behind Banda

Chief Chisunka of the Ushi people in Luapula Province and more than 25 of his headmen in his chiefdom have pledged to fully support President Rupiah Banda and the MMD Government during this year’s election due tothe immense development being seen in the province.

And MMD National chairperson for Transport and Communications PeterDaka has called on Zambians not to be swayed by empty promises from opposition parties but focus on re-electing President Banda.

Chief Chisunka said the people of Luapula were not blind to theconcerted efforts that President Banda and MMD Government had madeduring his two years of being in office considering he took over atthe time Zambia was experiencing financial challenges.

Chief Chisunka said this at his palace yesterday when Mr Daka who isalso Science Technology and Vocational Training Minister paid acourtesy call on him accompanied by MMD Luapula Province chairpersonEmmanuel Chungu.

The chief who said he was recently grossly misquoted by the Post Newspaper which quoted him as saying there was no development to showin Luapula Province, said President Banda had performed exceptionally well and that he had proved to be a visionary leader with a focused mind aimed at uplifting the livelihood of vulnerable people, especially in rural areas.

The traditional ruler said he was impressed his chiefdom had benefiteda lot from the MMD Government’s move to construct several hospitals,schools and upgrading of major roads.

“President Banda is performing well and in my chiefdom I have seenseveral infrastructure developments coming while others have been completed.

Our president’s concerted efforts to improve our livesshould be commended and we shall give all support,” Chief Chisunkasaid.

Mr Daka implored Zambians not to be swayed by empty promises from some opposition leaders and urged them to re-elect Mr Banda because of his exemplary performance to develop Zambia.

“As Government, we are happy to work with all our chiefs countrywideand President Banda will continue to ensure you are empowered together with your people.

As Zambians, let us not be misled by empty promisesfrom opposition leaders because they have nothing tangible to offer,”he said.

Mr Daka, who also held a meeting with more than 25 headmen at the palace, urged them to rally behind President Banda’s leadership saying the MMD Government would ensure all citizens received a share of the nationalcake through initiation of on-going development projects.

Later, Mr Daka addressed thousands of residents at Chisunka BasicSchool and urged them to support Mr Banda saying change of Government this year could derail current development projects in mostareas.
