Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak says this season’s FA Cup triumph and qualification for the Champions League are a step on the road to achieving the club’s ambitions.

Roberto Mancini’s side defeated Stoke City at Wembley, while a victory over Tottenham secured a minimum fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

City are now third and could be set for automatic qualification for the Champions League ahead of Arsenal, but Al-Mubarak has set his sights even higher for the future.

“I feel we have an incredible foundation for incredible years ahead,” he told the club’s official website.

“We are one step further on a journey we started three years ago.

“I am delighted at the way the team has progressed. But our ambitions are much bigger than what has been achieved this season.

Al-Mubarak’s City could secure third place with a victory over Bolton Wanderers on the final day of the season on Sunday, while Arsenal sit just a point behind in fourth and take on Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Despite the club’s wealth, Mubarak has also insisted there will be no summer spending spree, with Financial Fair Play rules set to be enforced at the start of the 2012-13 season.
