Robin van Persie insists he can understand the reaction of Arsenal supporters after his side’s disappointing end to the season.

Since defeat at the hands of Birmingham in the League Cup Final, the North London outfit have only recorded two victories in ten Premier League outings, losing three out of their last four.

During the same spell, The Gunners have also been dismissed from both the FA Cup and Champions League as their six-year barren run without a trophy continues, causing frustration amongst supporters.

 “I can understand the fans’ reaction because I feel connected with them and know they are frustrated,” Van Persie told The Sun.

“The players share that frustration but we are giving it everything.

“I am the first person to say when something isn’t good enough and I’m not trying to hide from our results.”

The Dutchman has scored 17 league goals this term including a hat-trick against Wigan and admits that despite his side’s indifferent form, his own form has been the best of his career.

“This is definitely the best scoring form of my career but there’s been lots of ups and downs for me and for the team this season,” added the 27-year-old.

Van Persie struck a superb equaliser earlier in the campaign to level the scores against Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona in a Champions League clash at the Emirates – the moment of the season for the Dutchman against opponents he considers the benchmark.

“The highlight was beating Barcelona at home,” he added.

“When you look at them, they play four or five top games in a row and then have one when they don’t play so well but still win.

“That is when you can say you are a hugely good team – and that has to be our aim at Arsenal.”
