Dahiru Muhammed was convicted for reckless driving, an offence punishable under Section 28 (1) CAP 548 of Road Traffic Act.
Police prosecutor, Paul Anigbo, told the court that on May 13, the accused drove a Peugeot J5 bus with registration number BC 482 KMC along Airport road and eventually lost control and somersaulted into a culvert, damaging one express road light pole belonging to Julius Berger Plc.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged the court to have mercy on him, saying his act was not intentional.
Magistrate Aminu Abdullahi convicted the accused and sentenced him to two months imprisonment or to pay N400 as fine.
In another case, two men were arraigned yesterday for alleged robbery.
Nnamdi Ngozi, 22, and Samuel Nku, 22, were charged with criminal conspiracy, robbery and being in possession of a car suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.
Police prosecutor, Inspector John Ijoga, stated in court that the accused persons conspired with others now at large to commit robbery at Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja.
He said the accused persons robbed one Aminu Alhassan of his Nissan Almera car valued at N450,000, N50,000 cash and a Nokia handset valued at N3,500.
When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty and sought for bail, which was opposed by the prosecutor on the grounds that investigations into the matter had not been concluded.
Chief magistrate Oyebola Oyewumi ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to June 6 for further mention.
