IFMIS Project Story Successful Says Head of Liberian Delegation

The technical focal point and deputy minister for Expenditures, Ministry of Finance, Liberia, has lauded the Gambia government’s efforts in implementing the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) Projects. According to him, The Gambia has a success story in implementing IFMIS as compared to other African countries.

Kofi Abedu Bentst Snr who heads the Liberian IFMIS delegation currently on a five-day understudy visit in the country made this remarks during an interview with reporters shortly after meeting the vice president and minister of Women’s Affairs, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, Tuesday at State House. The visiting Liberian delegation, led to State House by officials of the Directorate of the National Treasury were at the vice president’s office to seek her blessing and guidance before the start of the process.

Bentst Snr said: “We choose The Gambia as a country for understudy instead of going to other Africans countries who are not successful in implementing the IFMIS project.” Asked how the move will impact in strengthening the already existing bonds between the two countries, Bentst Snr emphasised that the ties between Banjul and Monrovia dates back to previous years. He explained that the study tour will further serve as a midwife to give birth to better financial and bilateral ties between Liberia and The Gambia. “So I think it would strengthen it better,” he added.

IFMIS is among series of reforms undertaken by the government of The Gambia in its quest to improve the efficient and effectiveness of public financial management process to promote accountability and transparency and ultimately enhance the quality of public service delivery to the people.
