THE RAGING Political tension between supporters of President Atta Mills (GAME) and the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), took a nasty turn as top members in the Northern Region went to the extent of flexing muscles in a radio studio.

The NDC activists, in the name of defending President Mills and the Former First Lady’s campaign for flagbearership of the party, have turned the various Radio Stations in the region into a platform for exchange of insults, unguarded remarks, character assassinations and unwarranted physical attacks.

Yesterday, a physical brawl broke out in the studios of Diamond FM between the Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, who is also the Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme and Head of the Regional NDC Communications Team, Mohammed Adam Abio and one B.Y. Alhassan, a teacher and supporter of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.

The Morning Show Host of Diamond FM, Mohammed Ibin Abdellah, who described the fight as ‘irresponsible’, told The Chronicle at his office that he was not happy with the behaviour of the NDC members in his studio.

According to him, it took the Deputy Northern Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Iddrisu and one other NPP activist, who were also part of the discussion panel, to separate the two.

He explained that the whole incident started on Monday, when one McDonald, another supporter of the former first Lady and the Regional Youth Organiser, Mohammed Adam Abio clashed on the same radio station over the 90 million Ghana cedis allegation, leveled against the President by Mr. Herbert Mensah, a member of Nana Konadu’s campaign team.

Mr. McDonald, who is also a member of the Regional Communications Team of the NDC, the Host said, attempted to ridicule President John Evans Atta Mills for apparently stabbing the former President, Jerry John Rawlings in the back, after he had made Prof Mills who he is today.

He (McDonald), according to the Morning Show Host, questioned why President Mills could not send his Nomination Form to the founder of the party, Mr. Rawlings, to bless him for another victory in 2012, since he (President Mills) was behaving as if all was well between him and the former President.

The attacks and reply from both of them, finally resulted in a fight in the studio. The Northern Region NDC is now divided between Prof Mills on one hand, and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and Ekow Spio-Garbrah on the other hand.

Attempts by The Chronicle to speak to the combatants proved unsuccessful. Mr. Abio, upon reaching him on the line, told the paper that he was in a meeting and could not speak on the matter, whilst Mr. B.Y Alhassan on the other hand failed to answer his calls.
