Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart believes he is “improving daily and game-by-game”, and pointed to his understanding with the back four as the reason behind his fine season.

The 24-year-old has kept 17 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, which have taken him to the top of the division’s goalkeeping charts.

Yet Hart believes there is still plenty of room for improvement in his game and hailed the understanding he shares with his defenders at Manchester City.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Hart said: “I’d like to think I can improve, I like to think I’m improving daily and game-by-game, but at the moment I’m just trying to take as much in as I can and get as much out of football as I can.

“I’m still trying to learn my game, I’m still trying to learn. I think it helps having a good relationship with the back four that we’ve got – we’ve been quite consistent this season, which has helped.”

The current England No.1 also commented on the fate of fellow England goalkeeper Robert Green, whose international career may be called into question after West Ham were relegated to the Championship.

Asked as to whether dropping down a division would be an issue, Hart said: “I don’t know. If I ever have to deal with that situation then I’d probably think about it a bit more but that’s for the selectors to choose.

“I’m pretty they’ll pick the best English goalkeepers regardless of what league they’re in.”

The City No.1 also defended Birmingham City keeper Ben Foster, who recently announced his plans to make himself unavailable for England selection for the foreseeable future.

“I wouldn’t put it in the same words as you that players don’t want to play for England but like I’ve said before that’s their own personal decision,” he said.

“I’m sure they’ve got very good reasons for doing it because the decision wouldn’t have been made lightly.”
