Ex-Ghana goalkeeper Edward Ansah has revealed how turned down numerous overtures to play for the Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The Ghana national team goalkeepers’ trainer had an incredible nine-year stay in Nigeria and had stints with defunct Leventis United of Ibadan and Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri.
Ansah, who was a household name in Nigerian football, claims he was on a verge of switching nationality to join the Super Eagles until a last minute change in mind.
“I had played in Nigeria for so many years that the fans loved me and wanted me to play for the Super Eagles at the expense of Ghana but I settled to play for the land of my birth at the last minute,” Ansah revealed on Happy FM sports.
“It was that easy at the beginning because I had built a strong bond with the Nigerian football fans but the love for the country never waned and did the right thing by playing for the Black Stars.”
He was a member of the Black Stars squad that won silver at the 1992 African Nations Cup.
