Former West Ham striker Paolo Di Canio has revealed that he is on the brink of starting his coaching career in England.

The Italian, who lit up the Premier League with some fantastic goals, is likely to join a lower league side in a coaching position – with Swindon Town favourites to snap up the 42-year-old.

Di Canio reiterated his love for English football and believes that is where his future lies.

“I believe my future will be in England,” Di Canio told Sport Mediaset.

“In the next few days something will happen, perhaps in an inferior division.

“English football is loyal, full of pride and I believe I’m close to returning to England. It is the country that I most love from a football standpoint.”

The former Hammers striker admitted he was sad to hear about West Ham’s relegation, which was finalised after their 3-2 defeat to Wigan on Sunday.

Boss Avram Grant was sacked soon after, with some even speculating that Di Canio could take over.

“I am very saddened by West Ham’s relegation,” he said.

“This team has always been in my heart. They have unique supporters. I would give everything for West Ham. I even have a Hammers tattoo.”
