The President, John Evans Atta Mills has assured Ivorian refugees in the Ampain camp in the Elembelle district of the Western Region, of government’s commitment to make their stay in the country comfortable.
The President said it was unfortunate for them to flee their country because of political conflict.
According to President Mills, the presence of the refugees in Ghana should serve as a deterrent for Ghanaians to desist from acts that could spark conflict.
Addressing a gathering of refugees during a visit to the camp on Tuesday May 17, President Mills said he will discuss the situation of the refugees with the leaders of Ivory Coast and aid them to restore peace to Ivory Coast.
“It tells us one thing that we should always fight for each and every one of us. I wish that all of us would come round and see this through. I am sure that there are some that we knew in Cote d’Ivoire and now they are all here they don’t know what the future holds for them”.
“I will be going to Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday to witness the inauguration of Ouattara and I think that my visit here would give me an opportunity to discuss the issue with them. I want to assure them that as long as they are on Ghanaian soil they will be given the security and protection that they need”.
