One year after he won one of the races at the Hared Source of the Nile marathon, Thomas Ayeko returns with an even bigger reputation this Sunday in Jinja.
The 10km event winner from the second edition will again be the favourite having won silver in the juniors at the World Cross Country championships earlier this year. Ayeko leads a strong list of elite athletes with national junior teammates Ben Siiwa and Peter Kibet also in the fray.
That quality matches the field in the 21km race where Jackson Kiprop will defend his title with Francis Musani and Nicholas Kiprono lurking. The charity event, whose target is to equip Jinja Referral Hospital, has also attracted several companies.
Since its inception three years ago, the event has evolved from buying a generator for the health facility to acquiring incubators for the labour ward to now focusing on Ear, Nose andThroat (ENT) treatment.
Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta, the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces, will be the chief runner. The first five winners in the two races, 21km and 10km, will get cash prizes.
