Abaji Council disburses N6.5m scholarship

Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Yahaya Musa Mohammed, Monday disbursed N6.5m scholarship fund to about 650 students from the council, who are studying in different tertiary institutions across the country.

Speaking at the disbursement flag off ceremony, Alhaji Musa said the ‘2010 Batch B’ scholarship disbursement was meant to spur students into studying harder as well as reducing the economic hardships faced by many families who can no longer cater for their children in schools.

According to him, almost 650 in the categories of diploma and national certificate of education holders benefited from the gesture, adding that he has asked the scholarship committee to roll out plans to pay the 2011 scholarship immediately. He said the council will soon purchase admission forms for students who would want to further their education to higher levels.

“Since education remains one of the priorities of this administration, we are going to leave no stone unturned in our quest to promote it. This is to give necessary support to indigent persons and reduce over-dependence on family support,” he added.
