Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson warned by FA about future conduct after Howard Webb comments

After praising referee Howard Webb before his Manchester United side went on to beat closest title rivals Chelsea, Sir Alex Ferguson has been warned by the FA about his future conduct.

Webb was the official for United’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford but the FA deemed Ferguson’s comments – where he dubbed Webb “the best in the country” – as unsuitable.

A charge of improper conduct followed but after the Scot refused to respond and a warning has since been dealt out by the FA’s Regulatory Commission.

“This is a clear breach of the rule and it is the first time such a matter has been placed in front of a Commission,” read a statement on the FA’s website.

“As a result of this charge the Commission were aware of other occasions where pre-match comments were made by other Managers.

“In this case, it was considered to be a minor breach, but a breach nevertheless, and it should be taken as a warning to all managers in the future that any such breach, even positive comments, are likely to result in a charge by The FA.”
