Medo Kamara Scoops Serbian Cup Medal

Freetown — Sierra Leone international midfielder, Mohamed ‘Medo’ Kamara became the latest Sierra Leonean footballer in Europe to scoop silverware this season after helping his side, Partizan Belgrade to lift their 61st Serbian Cup.

Medo’s Belgrade side was crowned champions after defeating Vojvodina 2-1 in the grand final. It was the midfielder’s first silverware since joining the Serbian champions in August 2010.

The 23-year old midfielder played the entire match at the Stadion Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade and was very instrumental helping his side to attain success. However, it was Ghanaian striker, Prince Tagoe and Serbian Zvonimir Vukic’s goals in the 17th and 71st minute respectively that gave Belgrade the victory.

It was a sweet revenge for Partizan as they lost their two meetings in this season’s Serbian League to Vojvodina. Partizans have now won the Serbia Cup three times: in 2008, 2009 and 2011 respectively.

This latest silverware has added to the 23-year old midfielder’s honours he won during his time in the Finnish League; winning the Finnish League Cup in 2006 with Kuopion Palloseura, the Finnish Cup in 2008 and League in 2009 with Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi and he was also voted the Finnish League player of the year 2010.

Medo, who made five appearances in the 2010-2011 UEFA Champions League for Partizan, is also on course to win the double this season as they are currently at the top of the Serbian League table with five points above second place Crvena Zvezda with four games to play.
