Rafael van der Vaart has ended fears that he could be leaving Tottenham Hotspur by declaring that he is looking forward to next season with the north London club.

The former Real Madrid midfielder scored a superb opener in Spurs’ 2-0 victory over Liverpool at the weekend to help his side move back to fifth place in the standings, and potentially achieve a run in the Europa League next season.

Now the Dutchman is targeting a triumph in the smaller European tournament, but hopes that the club can achieve Champions League football again.

“We always want to play in Europe,” Van der Vaart said, according to The Sun.

“It is good to have the experience from the Europa League and it would be a nice title to win.

“I like to be playing every two or three days.”

He added: “Of course I want to be playing in the Champions League.

“But I have only been here one year. I have enjoyed my year and we will see what next season will bring.

“It’s really important to be in Europe. You saw this season that being in the Champions League has helped us.

“It is so important for players and that’s why we want to win our final game against Birmingham.”
