Birmingham are reportedly looking to sign Zamalek’s Egyptian international Shikabala in an attempt to replace Aliaksandr Hleb whose loan from Barcelona ends at the end of the season.

The Zamalek youth product, who is legally named Mahmoud Abdel Razek Fadlallah will be out of contract with the Egyptian giants in December, meaning McLeish could get the 25-year-old at a bargain price.

Shikabala has played in Europe before, during a short stint with Greek side PAOK, but he was forced to return due to Military duties, but that transfer landed him in a lot of trouble as he moved back to Zamalek whilst still being officially owned by PAOK.

Fifa subsequently banned him from domestic football for six months and fined him €990,000, but the Daily Mail report that he could be ready for another European adventure.

Although he is drawing interest from France and Germany, it is believed his preference would be the Premier League, should Birmingham survive the relegation battle.
