Hadji Eyes Europe’s Elite Leagues

Freetown — Sierra Leone’s Cyprus-based striker, Mustapha ‘Hadji’ Bangura – who the Apollo fans believe is undoubtedly the most talented player in their squad – has stated in an interview on NTV Limassol S-Sport show that it is time for him to move on to a bigger league in Europe.

The Sierra Leonean attacking midfielder who was on target in their 2-2 draw against Olymbiakos Nicosia last Tuesday said though he is eager to help his side win the Cyprus Coca Cola Cup final slated for May 18 this year, he is looking forward to a move to a bigger European league.

He said: “I want to get a second year of the Coca Cola Cup and in the summer move to a better league. I think it is time to go somewhere higher.”

“It’s a very nice feeling to play in the cup final. I was delighted last year when we won it.”

The former Nes Salamina striker said this season has been his best in his career with Apollo and in Cyprus.

“In Salamis four years ago I had a similar season. I scored eight goals in the league and three in the cup games. On the other hand, Apollo is different. In Salamis I had different objectives and this year they are not the same. Apollo strives for high positions and titles. The degree of difficulty is higher, so I think the season is my best,” said Bangura.

The 21-year old has attracted interest from top European clubs and quite recently Anderlecht, Werder Bremen and Olympiakos were linked with the player but he has said he has more love for the German and Spanish leagues.

“It’s nice to know many teams are interested in me, but for now I do not know anything, this issue is being handled by my agent and Apollo can’t say more. All I can attest to is the fact that I still have a year contract with Apollo and I have learnt a lot in Apollo,” he said.
