The New Hope Academy on Peace Island in Paynesville has celebrated its 16th gala anniversary with the crowning of the school’s Queen and King.
Kelvin Bomah and Korto Kortie of 10th and 5th grades respectively won as King and Queen after series of sparkling contests at the program which was also characterized by other activities including African Costume, culinary, fund raising rally and athletic activities involving the student population.
New Hope Academy, formerly, Second Generation Institute was founded in 1995 by Rev. Augustine Arkoi. Since its establishment to inculcate academic, moral and spiritual virtues into the minds of its increasing number of students, the institute has equally proven itself to be one of the few academically acclaimed secondary schools in Liberia.
Sekou S. Konneh, Managing Director of Don Kan Gas Station and Montserrado County district 7 Representative aspirants cautioned the students to strive for education that would enable them to make effective contributions to national development.
“It does not matter where you come from, or who you are,” what matters is what you can contribute to nation building,” he told the students.
While pledging L$7,000 as contribution to the students’ rally, Mr. Konneh also cautioned parents of the students to remain supportive of them for better and rewarding future.
For his part, the founder and proprietor of the New Hope Academy, Rev. Augustine S. Arco, cautioned parents to help in molding the minds of their children as such responsibility was not for teachers’ alone.
Rev. Arco further encouraged parents to make their children to participate in extra- curriculum activities as they prepare for future leadership in the society.
Rev. Arco, on behalf of the school board of directors presented a cash of L$10,000 dollars as contribution to the endowment funds for teachers of the institute.
He called on stakeholders to support the country’s educational system as the success of Liberia’s post-development would remain a mere dream without educated human resources.
It may also be recalled that the New Hope Academy, recently became a first play winner for a drama contest which was dedicated to importance of International Consumers day in Monrovia.
The competition was organized by the Government of Liberia (GOL) through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with international partners including European Union, Economic Community of West African States among many others.
