AN eight-member cultural dance troupe from the Tanzania House of Talent (THT) is expected to represent the country in the India Africa Forum Summit that will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the end of this month.
THT Director, Rebecca Young, said the troupe, whose trip has been sponsored by the High Commission of India in Tanzania, will participate in a series of cultural activities expected to attract groups from more than 12 African nations.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has organized the event. The summit will be chaired by India’s Prime Minister, Man Mohan Singh and a large troupe from India will also join the rest in the cultural events.
She said the Tanzanian troupe will share the stage with nine other African and Indian dance troupes.
“All troupes will perform traditional dance styles in the event, in which the THT team will perform in a period of four days from May 20-23”, said Rebecca.
“Before the performances, all troupes will engage in individual and group rehearsals and the resulting performances will be witnessed by all international community in the world,” she added.
She said apart from the performances, there will also be a three-day media symposium and a six-day interactive craft meet, with the latter carrying a message titled ‘Handicraft hope-
Gender empowerment through crafts’.
Two journalists and two craftswomen from Tanzania will attend the two events, with their trip also being sponsored the High Commission of India in Dar es Salaam.
