The Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued a groveling apology to soccer fans for the abandoned May 9 disaster ceremonial match over the weekend.
Soccer fans went ballistic over Hearts of Oak’s decision to pull out of the game after they accused Asante Kotoko of breach of trust in deciding to use reserve players for the match.
Angry fans beseeched the gate demanding for a refund and it took the timely intervention of the security apparatus detailed at the venue to calm down tempers.
“We want to sincerely apologise profusely to soccer fans for what happened in the memorial match due to some technical difficulties,” Deputy Sports minister Nii Nortey Duah said.
“We’ll be meeting the various stakeholders and try to find an amicable solution and then we’ll fix a new date for the game.”
