Wigan Athletic’s on-loan goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi has revealed he intends to go back to parent club Bolton Wanderers at the end of the current campaign, but the Oman international insists he expects to be first choice wherever he starts next season.

Al-Habsi has been one of Wigan’s most consistent performers this term since joining on a season-long loan deal from Bolton last summer as Roberto Martinez’s side battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

But the 29-year-old is scheduled to return to the Reebok after the Latics conclude their campaign away at Stoke on Sunday, where he will either have to compete with current number one Jussi Jaaskelainen or seek a transfer.

Writing on his Twitter account, the 29-year-old revealed that although he will return to Bolton at the end of the season, he feels he has done enough at the DW Stadium to merit first team football, and will not settle for anything less.

“Regarding my situation, there are no serious negotiations with any club so far,” he said.

“After the last match next week and whether we win or lose, I’ll be heading back to Bolton as of what I signed on the contract.

“But you can be sure I’ll not accept sitting on the bench next season with any club.”
