Namibia continued on their losing streak and this time around they lost to the Malawians 24-58 in a one-sided affair at the U/21 Netball Championship of the Confederation of Southern African Netball Associations (Cosana) in Windhoek yesterday.
The tournament hosts found the going tough from the onset and only managed to score two goals in the first quarter compared to the Malawians’ 20.
Things went from bad to worse for the home side, as they were restricted to a mere six goals in the second quarter, to go to the halftime break trailing 8-38.
The Malawian defence led by Loreen Ngwira continued to tighten the screws, forcing the Namibians to commit errors that resulted in turnovers most of the time they went on the attack.
At the end of the third quarter the score stood at 14-53 for Malawi. At the beginning of the final quarter of the match, the Malawian coach substituted five of her players.
The substitutions came as a welcome change for the Namibians who managed to finally get the ball in their circle and started to score some much-needed goals.
The Namibians scored 10 goals and restricted the Malawians to just five goals in the fourth quarter, bringing the final score at the end of the match to 24-58.
This was the last match for the Namibians who will finish the tournament without a win.
In other matches played yesterday, South Africa beat Botswana 47-35 but went on to lose 39-26 to Malawi.
Today the final will be played between South Africa and Malawi at 08h30.
