Simpa Aboakyir festival, which is celebrated by the chiefs and people of Winneba in the Central Region on the first Saturday of May each year, received the lowest patronage in the history of the festival, this year. Aboakyir, which is one of the most celebrated and memorable traditional festivals in the country, was nearly cancelled this year due to misunderstanding between the two chieftaincy factions which posed a security threat.
