AFTER eliminating his former teacher Sam Simbwa from the Bell Uganda Cup on Friday, Fred Kajoba insists his Simba side are good enough to win the sh12m-worth Bell Uganda Cup title.
The army club recovered from a dismal first half display to eliminate record champions Express after a 3-2 penalty shoot-out at Wankulukuku Stadium. The two sides had settled for a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
It was the hosts Express, who had taken the lead in normal play. Substitute Julius Ogwang, who came on for Francis Jjemba, neatly placed in a Noah Ssemakula cross to send Wankulukuku fans wild in celebration.
However, Baganza Yusuf equalized for Simba in the 92 minute to send the game into a shoot-out.
Kajoba later revealed that Simba would be ready to match URA, who beat Victors 1-0 in the other semi-final on Saturday.
“We will be ready. In such tournaments, each game is like a final and we have gone through all that up to here,” Kajoba said moments after the game.
On Saturday, Sula Baagala’s seventh minute strike yesterday helped URA beat Victors to a place in the Bell Uganda Cup final.
The right footed midfielder half volleyed the ball into the top left corner of Ali Kimera’s goal to send the tax collectors to their third final of the knock-out competition.
Victors tried to claw their way back in the second half but had themselves to blame for not changing the result.
The Kakindu side’s lead striker Yuda Mugalu at one point had the goalkeeper at his mercy only to fire a weak shot. It was an almost similar story with Mike Katende.
Victors coach blamed his players for the loss. “The kind of chances we got rarely come against a team of URA’s might but we blew them.”
