Imoke tasks lawmakers-elect on quality representation

GOVERNOR Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has asked the newly-elected state and national assemblies’ lawmakers on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to give the people of Cross River nothing short of qualitative and positive representation when they assume office.

The governor said it was only in so doing that they would reciprocate the good gesture of the electorate who voted en-masse for them at the polls.

While noting that the challenge before them was to serve the people well, Imoke called for a partnership between the state lawmakers and those at the National Assembly because theirs was a collective representation aimed at moving the state forward.

Imoke, who spoke when PDP lawmakers-elect presented their certificates of return to him, enjoined them to see themselves as representatives of all for the collective growth of the state.

He remarked that the certificates were received on behalf of the people of the state, who made it possible for them to win the elections by giving them their mandate.

He commended them for their success and for traversing the state during the campaigns to solicit votes from the people, urging them to implement the party’s manifesto and plan to make the state one of the best in the country.

The PDP state Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Okon, said the elected lawmakers came to salute the governor, whom through his leadership, the party won the three senatorial seats, the eight federal constituency seats, as well as 24 out of the 25 seats in the state Assembly.

Okon said the joy of the party was boundless because “these certificates are not just ordinary certificates, but the ones signed by Prof. Attahiru Jega, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, which also have Mike Igini’s certification. This means that you all are globally certified as the true representatives of the people”.
