Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti believes he will still be at helm of the Stamford Bridge club come the start of next season, despite a trophyless campaign in charge of the west London club.

The Italian saw his side concede a last minute equaliser in Sunday’s 2-2 home draw with Newcastle United, with the clash having being pitched beforehand as possibly his final game in charge at Stamford Bridge.

However Ancelotti has insisted he will still be in charge of Chelsea come August when the 2011/2012 Premier League season kicks off, but also acknowledged that the decision lays in the clubs and not his hands.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ancelotti said: “Everyone can give their opinion about this and my job here, but it is the club that has to make the decision about my job.

“Sometimes I did a good job, sometimes I did better. I think I will be here next season.”

The 51-year-old however was left to rue his team’s inability to hold onto a lead once again, with the Blues conceding just a minute from time despite only taking the lead themselves with just seven minutes of normal time remaining.

He continued: “We are disappointed because we were very close to winning this game, we are now involved again in a fight for second place. We now have to fight to win another game.

“There were a lot of difficulties in the game, we scored again and then we misjudged one minute, as we have a lot of times this season. Last minute we conceded a goal and we lost a lot of points.

“I don’t know why, something is wrong, the game is finished, they the players have to stay more in focus.”

The former AC Milan boss was also quick to recognise the support of the Chelsea fan base who, despite venting their frustrations at the end of the game, were still praised highly by Ancelotti.

“I want to say thanks to the supporters. Today they gave good support but also for all this season. Also in this moment when it’s not so good, they were still close to the team.

“It’s normal to say thanks to the fans, the support I received was fantastic.”
