Geneva — The Angolan Health Minister, José Van-Dúnem, was distinguished on Thursday in Geneva city in Switzerland by Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM), for his commitment to the fight against the disease in the region of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
The Angolan official was awarded with a diploma during a ceremony held in the sideline of 20th The 20th RBM Partnership Board Meeting, which started on Wednesday in Geneva.
The meeting is discussing themes such as WHO recommendation for malaria treatment, sustainable financial for the disease control and updating on the insecticide strategy to resistance.
The ceremony was attended by the Angolan permanent representative to UN and International Organisations based in Geneva, ambassador Arcanjo do Nascimento and the national director for Combating Malaria, Filomeno Fortes.
The Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM) is the global framework for coordinated action against malaria. It forges consensus among key actors in malaria control, harmonises action and mobilises resources to fight malaria in endemic countries.
The RBM Partnership was launched in 1998 by Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, under the initial leadership of Dr. David Nabarro, as a partnership between WHO, UNICEF, UNDP and the World Bank, in an effort to provide a coordinated global response to the disease.
