Political Talk as Elections Draw Closer

Vice-president George Kunda has once again discussed an important point that calls for deeper reflection among the Zambian people.

There is more dignity for anyone to follow a team that has a lot to show for what it says and does than to cling to a group of people whose language is attractive and yet they lack a well-defined roadmap.

As Zambia draws closer to the polls, it is expected that critics of the MMD Government in their desperate attempt to win support will make determined efforts to speak ill of the leaders in power.

However, there is a record that is hard for them to alter. The MMD has become the touchstone for quality leadership and it may not be an easy task to make it drop out of significance.

While some opposition parties like the Patriotic Front are summoning reinforcements from all the desperate politicians with a whimsical approach to national issues, the MMD is steadily building on its development record, focused on its sure-fire success.

We have reluctantly grown used to the prima donnas, people who think they are the best on the political front but behave in a sinister manner when they do not get what they want.

This, in every day language, is something of inconsistent leadership which could never be relied upon, and it is a foretaste of the tyranny some political leaders could introduce if they ascended to power.

Their virulent criticism of every decision the MMD Government makes on development has unmasked their shaky foundations.

The ruling party has a clear track record of what it has done and what it intends to do for the people of Zambia.

This is while the PF has kept its followers on tenterhooks, all the time waiting to see what the Michael Sata-led party would do for them if it ever made it to national leadership.

We concur with the vice-president who says in one of our front page stories today that the most credible way to put money in people’s pockets is by concentrating on tangible development projects from which citizens would benefit through increased job creation and other income-generating ventures.

The ubiquitous chant by the PF leadership of “development in three months” is a ploy to beguile Zambians into trusting and voting for them.
