Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti: My future will be decided on the whole season, not just defeat to Manchester United

Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out against reports that he will fired in the summer, by saying he will be judged on his entire season at Chelsea and not just his side’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.

Sunday’s disappointing defeat at Old Trafford meant United only need to avoid defeat from one of their final two games to lift their 19th league title, and subsquently overtake rivals Liverpool and England’s most successful club.

When asked if the defeat to United could signal his departure, he told reporters: “No, I don’t think this. I think that my job will be judged for all the year not just from one game.

“We will have to think that we can win the title again, our aim is to get second place we have a possibility if we win the game against Newcastle and so this is the motivation for the players; to play a good game and have a good reaction after the defeat.

“After the bad game that we played against Manchester United I look forward for the next game.”

“It was not an easy week because we lost something; before the game against United everything was OK, after the game it changed our mind, changed our aim.

“But second place in this moment is important and we have to do our best to reach this position on the table.”

Ancelotti has had to face constant rumours that he would be sacked at the end of the campaign after a trophy-less season, despite securing a Premier League and FA Cup double in his first year at the club.

The Italian, though, insists he would like to stay at the club, but acknowledged that his future at Stamford Bridge is out of his hands.

He added: “I think that I have a very good relationship with the players.

“But I don’t think it would be a problem for next season if I’m not here. I hope, obviously, to stay here. But there may be another coach and they’ll have the same relationship.

“We’re speaking about very professional players, players with a lot of experience.

“Every coach who was here in the past had a good relationship with the players. They gave, all the time, their best.

“I hope to stay – I’ve said a lot of times – but if something’s changed, I will find another solution without problem.”
