The Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, Alexander Asum Ahensah, has asked Ghanaian musicians to close their ranks and work together to address the challenges facing the industry.
He mentioned piracy of recorded musical works as well as payment of royalties to owners and composers as issues they need to work on to bring sanity into the industry to attract investors.
Mr. Asum Ahensah made the appeal when he launched the Music Council of Ghana (MCG) in Accra.
The Music Council of Ghana among its objectives seeks to nurture the talents of young, active and rising musicians, while at the same time rehabilitating old, retired and forgotten musicians.
Mr. Asumah Ahensah tasked the executives to be transparent in dealing with members.
The President of Music Council of Ghana, Ekow Micah, expressed gratitude to government for its efforts in addressing the challenges confronting the industry.
He noted that the Council is not a rival body to the Musicians Union of Ghana.
