Bolton midfielder Mark Davies has season cut short by surgery

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Mark Davies will not feature for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on Thursday.

The former Wolves player has only appeared twice for the Trotters in the last two months and so the club sought surgery to deal with the floating bone fragments which have interrupted his season.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle told reporters: “We tried some steroid injections but they’ve not worked so I felt it was important we addressed it now and it wasn’t carrying on into the close season.

“By doing that we’ll have him fit and available for the start of pre-season.”

The Scot, 44, praised Davies and also hailed the impact of midfielder Stuart Holden, who is also sidelined.

“It’s been a huge blow to himself and Stuart Holden getting injured at the same time because they’re both key players in the engine room in midfield and were a big part of the success we’d been having,” he said.
