According to leading members of the Movement, they are very united and firmly behind its President.
The Movement has also dissociated itself from statements by resigned members in some regions, who have now declared support for President Mills, as not representing the views of the Movement en bloc.
Last week, the Deputy General Secretary, Mrs. Kumah Mintah resigned after over two decades with the group.
On Thursday May 12, three regional organizers, from Central, Eastern and Brong Ahafo Regions, announced their resignation on grounds that they do not support the former first lady’s ambition to lead the NDC and subsequently contest to be President.
A member of Nana Konadu’s Campaign Team, Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu has also alleged that people are being intimidated and bribed to resign from the Movement.
But the General Secretary of the Movement, Sylvia Ahorlu, has told Citi News the Movement is solidly behind Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and will not be distracted by a misguided few.
“I know for a fact that the women are supportive of what Madam is doing. They support her candidature and they are solidly behind her united as ever. Out of 4 million or so women, three of them have come out to declare their support for President Mills but we are a democratic institution and we believe in democracy so they can go ahead and do whatever they want to do but they should be honest and sincere about what they do or say”.
“Certain statements were made by these women to the press to create the impression that their views reflect those of the movement. I wish to state clearly and categorically that that impression is false”.
Madam Ahorlu said the Movement has a campaign strategy which does not include creating false impressions through endorsements.
