Mbau Seeks Help to End Row With Kabogo

Nairobi — Maragua MP Elias Mbau has asked a committee headed by Speaker Kenneth Marende to intervene in a dispute between him and Juja MP William Kabogo.

Mr Mbau asked the Powers and Privileges Committee to hear and determine the circumstances regarding the confrontation between him and Mr Kabogo on Wednesday afternoon.

The Maragua MP, who also chairs the parliamentary Budget Committee, alleged that Mr Kabogo had threatened him after their confrontation metres away from the Chamber.

He rose shortly after Question Time to make a personal statement as allowed by the Standing Orders and offered his version of the events up to the fight.

He alleged that Mr Kabogo had “uttered unpalatable and provocative words” to him at a prayer-cum-political rally attended by Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta and other MPs in Nyeri last weekend.

He said Mr Kabogo had also provoked him when they met on the Speaker’s Walk on Wednesday afternoon.

The struggle for political supremacy in Central Province seems to be the cause of the dispute between the two MPs, who have been in opposite camps until Mr Mbau appeared to have crossed over last Sunday.

The battle for political supremacy is seen to pit Mr Kenyatta on one side and Gichugu MP Martha Karua and Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth on the other.

While Mr Kenyatta supported his rival in the Juja by-election last year, Mr Kabogo has of late emerged as his supporter, with Mr Mbau associating more with Mr Kenneth.
