John Uksu, 20, Emmanuel Uksu, 24, Thomas Odey, 31 and Victor Felix, 28, all residents of Gbagalakpe Nyanya, Abuja, were charged with joint acts, shop breaking and theft, offences punishable under Sections 79, 347 and 287 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Silas Nanpan, stated in court that on May 5, the complainant reported at Nyanya Police Station that on the same date, he went to his shop and discovered that the accused persons had broken into it and stolen cloths, perfumes, shoes and camisoles, all valued at N2.5million.
According to the prosecutor, the accused persons were caught while sharing the loot and confessed during police investigations that they wanted to use a taxi car with registration number XG 153 RBC to convey the stolen items to a residence at Gbagalakpe in Nyanya.
When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty and their counsel, Barrister Lebachi Anayo made an oral application for their bail, which was opposed by the prosecutor on the grounds that the accused persons may jump bail if granted.
Magistrate Ahmed Shuaibu told the counsel to file formal applications for the accused persons bail and remanded them in prison custody.
The case was adjourned to June 15 for hearing.
