The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has postponed its Delegates Congress slated tentatively for May 27 to 29 to an indefinite date in June this year.
The party executives say the postponement is as a result of legal actions taken by some constituencies against the organizers of the Congress.
National Chairman of the CPP, Ladi Nylander told Adom News the party wants to take time to settle all issues in the party according to the law before going ahead with the Congress.
He added that the fact that they have postponed the Congress does not mean that the party is confused and does not know which strategy to use for their campaign in the 2012 elections as is being bandied about.
He explained that, just like every party the CPP also has its own problems which they want to settle before the National elections.
He said they are now in the middle of settling all internal party issues as their constituency elections are going on across the country.
The CPP’s National Delegate Congress came under threat when some constituency executives from the Central Region declared their intention to take legal action against the organizers of the congress.
A petition to the National Chairman called on the party to restrain the regional executives from organizing a congress in contravention of the CPP Constitution.
The petitioners contended that the mandate of the present Constituency Executives ends in September, 2011 and they cannot understand why the National Executive was in such a mad rush to organize constituency elections.
The petition was jointly signed by Chairmen, Secretaries, Organizers, Women Organizers and some leading members of the party from the 19 Constituencies in the region.
The Constituencies are: Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese; Agona East; Agona West; Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam; Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa; Assin North; Assin South; Awutu-Senya; Cape Coast; Effutu; Gomoa East; Gomoa West; Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem; Mfantseman East; Mfantseman West; Hemang Lower Denkyira; Twifo-Atii Morkwaa; Upper Denkyira East and Upper Denkyira West.
