Santos striker Neymar has announced he will become a father later this year.

The 19-year-old highly rated forward has been linked with a move to Chelsea, and has already impressed in Eengland following an influential display for Brazil in their friendly against Scotland at the Emirates in March this year.

“I use this note to confirm the information that I will become father this year. The two families – mine and the mother to be – have talked and are ready to help us bring the baby into the world, giving him all necessary assistance and the best possible structure,” Neymar confirmed on his official website.

“By common agreement, we decided to preserve the mother’s name. This measure aims to calm her during the coming months, avoiding its exposure to any unnecessary things and ensuring mainly the privacy of the child to be born a few months.

“I ask everyone to respect this decision. The desired peace is essential for successful pregnancy.

“I conclude by asking God to bless the lives of our children! It will be very welcome and already have all our affection and love.”
