Several casualties have been recorded and houses including some in the chief linguist’s compound set ablaze after renewed violence between the feuding Lebu and Jinapor Royal gates in Buipe.
Reports have it that four of the victims have been treated and discharged at the Buipe District clinic.
However, one of the victims called Quiwura Ziblila Mankri, believed to be the chief driver of the Central Gonja District office of the Ghana Education Service Directorate has been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
A joint military/police contingent under the instruction of the District Security Committee has conducted a swoop in the Buipe Township and picked up suspects including Abdul Maiza Apor, oldest son of Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II.
Though the cause of the renewed violence is yet to be established by the security operatives on the ground, eyewitnesses say the attack on the GES driver sparked the conflict.
When contacted, Dr. Abdulai Jinapor, Spokesperson of the Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II mentioned Masrata Abdulai and Bushiratu Mahama as some of his sisters whose stores have been attacked and ransacked.
He accused the District Chief Executive, Hon Sualisu Biawuribe of taking sides in the protracted chieftaincy conflict.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Hon. Sualisu Biawuribe rubbished the allegation and said his major priority was to maintain law and order in Buipe and its environs.
Seidu Fatawu Awudu, Spokesperson of Chief Bawa Lebu Jewu of the Lebu gate has also accused the Jinapors of using their political connections to molest their opponents.
The feuding Jinapor and Lebu Royal gates have been at each other’s throat over who has the right to be enskinned Buipewura.
