Ian Rush: Kenny Dalglish is enjoying his second spell as Liverpool boss more than the first

Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes Kenny Dalglish is enjoying his time at the club more now than in his previous stint.

The Scot was at the helm between 1985 and 1991, and guided the team to three top-flight titles, two FA Cups and one League Cup during that time. He also remains the last manager to have won the league title with the Merseyside club.

And since taking charge for a second time in January, Dalglish has guided the Reds from mid-table to fifth place.

Rush said: “You can see people smiling around Anfield again now, and people have a spring in their step because the atmosphere is so positive, and that’s because Kenny has a spring in his step.

“He is enjoying himself, and he loves being back, and that is transmitted to the players and the people at the club. He knows everything there is to know about the club. He knows exactly what it means to represent Liverpool Football Club.

“What he has done is instil pride, that joy, into the players.

“If a few of them didn’t quite realise how privileged they are to pull on the Liverpool shirt, they certainly do now.

“That brings confidence and spirit in the dressing room, which is what Kenny is all about.

“He was one of the best in the business, and he hasn’t lost any of that. In fact, he looks even happier to be there, and as though he’s enjoying it even more.”
