WINNER of the Kaduna North Senatorial district seat, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed of the Congress for Progressive Party (CPC) who floored two-times governor of Kaduna state, Senator Ahmed Mohammad Makarfi yesterday narrated how he defeated the former governor.
Speaking in an interview after receiving his certificate of return at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kaduna, he said his success at the poll was not magic as was being claimed in some quarters, but that it was as a result of his long time connection with the people of his constituency.
“My success or victory was not a magic. It was all about seeking peoples’ votes. They gave me the votes which were more than that of my opponent, simple,’’ he said.
Responding to questions that Makarfi is more powerful than him politically, Datti who was one of the House of Representatives members that fought President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term bid in 2007, said all human beings are equal before Allah who gives power to whom He wishes.
“There is nobody that is more than anybody, except in the fear of Almighty Allah. You could have more money, you could have more influence but you are not more or greater than anybody except in the fear of Almighty Allah. This is the only criteria you can use to judge who is who or who is more than who in life,’’ he said.
He pledged to discharge his duties to the best of his ability in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians .
