Motorsport fans will relish yet another fascinating event, the Zig Zag Rally, which will rev up on May 27 in Tanga. According to chairman of the organising committee, the 350-kilometre race would involve five leading drivers from neighbouring Kenya.
The chairman of the event’s organising committee, Hussein Moor, said the foreign stars are all Mombasa-based and will be in action against 20 prominent local drivers.”It’s good news to have them on board; I believe they will add some flair in the tournament.
“They’ve had a good track record lately and there is no doubt that the invited drivers will challenge ours,” said the chairman.Moor added that they have chosen to use the all-weather road in order to give more thrills to the onlookers.
“It’s smooth and fast, so they will enjoy driving on it and the fans will also savour the two-day engine battle,” he said. The Zig Zag Rally will serve as the third round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) this season.Moor named the drivers from Kenya as: Hejaz Mirza, who was the runner up in last year’s event and Navij Khan. Other drivers will come from Babu Motors and Coast Pekee teams.
The chairman disclosed that the local clubs whose drivers will be battling it out in the race as: Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Morogoro, Dar es Salaam, Iringa and Tanga. The anxiously awaited race is scheduled to start with the Super Special Stage at Popatlal grounds before the cars speed to Pongwe via Boza and Duga.Moor added: “The number of the drivers lined up for the event is encouraging and I hope it will help encourage more youngsters to like the sport.”
