Togo has 5,753,324 inhabitants, 48.7% men and 51.3% women. These are the key figures of the last census conducted in the country in 2010 and whose partial results were presented Tuesday by the government.

A data analysis, said Dédé Ahoéfa Ekoué (photo), the Minister of Planning, the resident population has more than doubled in 29 years. “Togo has risen from 2,719,567 inhabitants in November 1981 to 5,753,324 in November 2010, which corresponds to an average annual growth rate of 2.58%,” she stated.

The census reveals a considerable variation in population growth at the regional level. Savannah regions (2.96%) and Marine (2.88%) are those where the population has risen sharply, unlike the plateau regions (2.33%) and Kara (1.81%) which have rates below the national average.
